Chalyce and Lon Young live in Malad, Idaho with their two children, Kason (4) and Shaylie (1). Chalyce, daughter of Zeph and Pat Quirl, grew up in Sugar City, ID. Lon, son of Keith and Cindy Young, grew up in Deweyville and graduated from Bear River High School in 1995.
After finding a lump in her leg, Chalyce underwent surgery where they removed the lump as well as nearby lymph nodes. The diagnosis: Stage 3B Melanoma Cancer. Chalyce was offered a treatment plan for her particular case that requires regular visits to the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, for the next 3-5 years. This involves a two-day stay for the intervenous treatment and associated CT scans, MRI’s and blood work necessary to check for abnormalities or signs of cancer elsewhere in her body.
The treatments themselves are expensive enough, but Lon and Chalyce are also bearing the added costs of prescriptions, overnight stays in hotels, gas for each round trip to Salt Lake City and the lost income from time off of work.
The good news is that she is being closely monitored, but the treatment makes her so ill that everyday tasks become a little more difficult…..and a lot more difficult.
Chalyce and Lon are wonderful parents to Kason and Shaylie. They are truly service-oriented and have been active and supportive of others in the community, donating not only their time but their money in support of others needs. They are more accustomed to being the helpers than the helped. But this time it’s different. They need our help. Donations of any amount will help ease the financial burden. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
